WATER SENSITIVITY
Viscose can lose its shape and elasticity when wet, so take care when washing.
DYEING
Viscose can be dyed in a variety of colours, allowing a wide range of choices for garments.
ETAPES DE FABRICATION
#1 DISSOLVING WOOD PULP
The manufacture of viscose begins by dissolving wood pulp in an alkaline solution, generally caustic soda. This forms a viscous solution called "cellulose xanthate".
#2 FIBRES
The cellulose xanthate solution is filtered to remove impurities. It is extruded through spinnerets to create threads. They are then immersed in a sulphuric acid bath to form viscose yarns, which are then plunged into a bath containing coagulating solutions. .
#3 WASHING AND BLEACHING
The fibres are carefully washed to remove chemical residues and achieve a neutral colour. They can then be bleached if necessary.
#4 SPINNING AND WEAVING
Once viscose fibres have been obtained, they can be spun and woven like any other textile fibre. They can be mixed with other fibres to create a variety of fabrics.
CARE
Wash viscose garments by hand or in the washing machine on a delicate cycle in cold water. Use a mild detergent to preserve the fibres, and avoid tumble drying as this can cause shrinkage and distortion. Viscose tends to stretch when wet, so handle it with care during washing and spin-drying. Preferably dry flat in the shade to avoid fading in the sun.
